Can you find out who some of the maintainers are, and tell me? Are you talking about the version of Mate that works with GTK 2? Or some newer version that requires GTK 3? Might it be that Mate for GTK 3 is maintained but the Mate I use, for GTK 2, is not? We don't want Emacs to use GTK 3, but is it a problem if the Mate programs use GTK 3 while Emacs uses GTK 2? Is using Mate running with GTK 3 tantamount to using GNOME 3? Or is it still like GNOME 2? -- Dr Richard Stallman (https://stallman.org) Chief GNUisance of the GNU Project (https://gnu.org) Founder, Free Software Foundation (https://fsf.org) Internet Hall-of-Famer (https://internethalloffame.org)
