Global mutable state is at the heart of GNU Emacs, and I disagree with the idea that we should try to get away from it. That is a non-goal. Even if someone showed me that there is no significant inconvenience in writing a text editor without global mutable state -- which I am skeptical of -- I would be against putting effort into changing the internal design of Emacs for goals that are internal. We should put our effort into features that provide benefits to users. -- Dr Richard Stallman Chief GNUisance of the GNU Project (https://gnu.org) Founder, Free Software Foundation (https://fsf.org) Internet Hall-of-Famer (https://internethalloffame.org)
