* "Waiting for git"

In building master, I see this output:

    Loading leim/leim-list.el (source)...
    Waiting for git...
    Waiting for git...
    Finding pointers to doc strings...
    Finding pointers to doc strings...done

What is it trying to do with git?  I don't want building Emacs to make
a network connection; how can I make sure this does not do so?

Record the commit and the branch used to build Emacs.

You don't need a connection; these commands run locally with Git.  And
if invoking Git fails, the data will not be recorded, that's all.
