That might be a good way to handle MacOS support, if maintaining it in Emacs itself is inconvenient. (I seem to recall that that is the case, but I am not sure.) You mention that it doesn't follow all the GNU and FSF policies. That might be very bad, or might not matter much, depending on the details not stated. (but quite open) platform.
