Pretest is not for changing the default behavior. They are for
fixing bugs before the release.
And people have found that this is a bug, so they are voicing their
objections again, since they were ignored last time.
The time for users to voice their objections and requests for
improvements is after Emacs is released. There's always the next
release.
The time is now, this is a regression in emacs, it is also not clear
cut wherter people like it or not. It breaks several key features in
emacs, like keyboard macros. It is a feature that should have been
voted on before.
Several people have suggested lots of good solutions, but people seem
to have ignored them completely. Setting line-move-visual on a
per-mode basis is a excellent middle ground that will make ALL parties
happy.
