Hi,

I'm not seeing the symbols from the unicode music block (1d12a..1d133)
with latest emacs CVS. See the attached file. GEdit and
firefox shows all symbols in that.

Interestingly, Emacs does show flat (266d) and sharp (266f). Even
not-xft Emacs showed these two, but after installing unifont,
non-xft Emacs also stopped showing those.

Any clues?

Greetings,
Jan.

I'm now adding many missing entries for the default
fontset. Please wait for a while.

What is shown when you type C-u C-x = while putting the
cursor on that character?

On the 1d12b flat, for example:

    Char: 𝄫 (119083, #o350453, #x1d12b, file ...) point=239 of 378 (63%) column=13

[where the double flat (bb) shows in my mailer the line above, Emacs
shows an empty placeholder box]

Greetings,
Jan.

Ah, no, what I want to see is the contents of *Help* buffer.

        file code: #xF0 #x9D #x84 #xAA (encoded by coding system utf-8-unix)
          display: no font available

I've just installed that change.

Sorry, but you did that on the character #x1D12A. What I
wanted to know is the result when you put cursor on #x266D
or #x266F.

And, what exactly "unifont" means? apt-cache shows these
packages.

% apt-cache search unifont
ttf-arphic-ukai - "AR PL UKai" Chinese Unicode TrueType font collection Kaiti style
ttf-arphic-uming - "AR PL UMing" Chinese Unicode TrueType font collection Mingti style
ttf-unifont - TrueType version of the GNU Unifont
unifont - font with a glyph for each visible Unicode 5.1 Plane 0 character
unifont-bin - utilities for manipulating the GNU Unifont
xfonts-unifont - PCF (bitmap) version of the GNU Unifont

Great, that works!

Next try:

character: ♭ (9837, #o23155, #x266d)
preferred charset: unicode (Unicode (ISO10646))
       code point: 0x266D
           syntax: _ which means: symbol
         category: h:Korean j:Japanese
      buffer code: #xE2 #x99 #xAD
file code: #xE2 #x99 #xAD (encoded by coding system utf-8-unix)
display: by this font (glyph code)
    xft:-unknown-DejaVu Sans Mono-normal-normal-normal-*-24-*-*-*-m-0-iso10646-1 (#x9BF)

Character code properties: customize what to show
  name: MUSIC FLAT SIGN
  general-category: So (Symbol, Other)
  old-name: FLAT

There are text properties here:
  face font-lock-comment-face
  font-lock-multiline t
  fontified t

[back]

I meant apt-get install unifont. FWIW:

$ LANG= apt-cache depends unifont
unifont
  Depends: xfonts-unifont
  Depends: ttf-unifont
  Suggests: unifont-bin
  Replaces: unifont-bin
