Good example, it addresses the points I was trying to make:
1. Is there any value in this being a defcustom? IMO, absolutely not.
I don't know, but it doesn't affect this issue. It IS a defcustom,
and as long as it is a defcustom, it needs to work right.
Since there is no important need for this optimization, my
decision is not to add it.
