The version of the unicode-2 branch has changed to 23.0.50, identical
with the trunk. Now it is no longer (at least not easily) possible to
have both installed in parallel.
Could this *please* be changed back to 23.0.0, or at least to some
number different from 23.0.50? (Multi-tty used to have 23.0.51, so
better avoid this one, too.)

I think miles is syncing trunk to unicode2 for the time being. The
problem will go away once the merging conflicts are resolved.

All changes you see in CVS are already "resolved" (even if they're not
correct :-).
In this case, I resolved it in favor of 23.0.50 because I think the
unicode branch should never have a version number _less_ than the trunk.
If this causes practical problems, I guess the unicode branch could be
bumped up to 23.0.51/52/something, I dunno.

As far as I know, once the trunk and unicode branch are in sync (is
this true now?), unicode can just be merged to the trunk, so there'll
be no need for the unicode branch quite soon (?).

What we need to do now is merge the multi-tty changes into the
Unicode-2 branch, then install the Unicode-2 changes into the trunk.

Don't worry, AFAIK you can't compile this branch right now anyway.

For sure the goal is that it can be compiled at some point? ;-)
And then a different version number (like 23.0.52) would come in
handy.

The variable mule-version of the trunk is "5.0 (SAKAKI)",
and that of emacs-unicode-2 is "6.0 (HANACHIRUSATO)". How
about using it to distinguish them?

We distinguish for the Gentoo packages by the "normal" version
number. We would get thousands of bug reports if we call the package
emacs-cvs-23.0.52 (which is a live version) and the user sees 23.0.50
in the program he runs.

In the patch I've been working on to resolve the merge, one of the conflicts
is the version number and I resolved it by setting it arbitrarily at
23.0.60.

We should keep the version numbers different as long as the unicode-2
branch is not dead. Whatever the state of merging at any time,
it is better that they have different version numbers.
Would someone please change unicode-2's version back to what it was?

Even if it can't be compiled now, it should have a different version
number now, just to make things clear.
