    Non-derived case:

      (define-major-mode NAME "DOC" ...)

    Derived case:

      (define-major-mode (NAME PARENT-NAME) "DOC" ...)

This is somewhat more elegant, but I think that in practice
it will be much cleaner if the first argument is always
the new mode name, uniformly.
