I seem to be unable to reproduce this! I'll check the eMails I've  
sent to find the original configuration (upon recommendation from a  
third side I changed GCC optimisation flags and then I also  
simplified a few *FLAG values). Maybe a 'make bootstrap' or maximal  
optimisation are needed – or both!
