If memory serves, this ability was added to the ns and mac ports back
before it was functional in GNUstep or typical GNU/Linux distributions, and
so someone (another memory says "RMS") asked that it not be enabled by
default, to avoid making the macOS version of Emacs more featureful than
the free versions.
Since that's no longer true, if my memory is correct, this change should be
a nice addition.
