Same here.

FWIW, the MSYS I'm (still) using is the (now rather old) last version from here:

  https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingwbuilds/files/external-binary-packages/

That pre-built MSYS comes also with a version of git (git version
1.8.1.msysgit.1) which as you see seems to work fine.
