Oh, I never said we don't have problems. This one should be solved at the source, though (fixing the package so that the mode-line redisplays faster). Or perhaps by disallowing :eval - if that is at all feasible. But I suppose throttling mode-line display should help with wayward customizations (which is good, of course, all other things equal).
