If you ./configure and then ./configure --without-x, you'll see a .1 and a .2. Emacs will normally use those correctly. (The files do differ... try diffing or swapping them and trying them from Emacs... C-n runs the command next-line which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `simple'. (next-line ARG) ion of the current buffer to be copied. ) But if you did two separate clean builds, the build id in the version would be the same and they would use the same file, and have problems...
