[?\C-+] is the way to put it more readably in vector notation (i.e., the
issue here is that [C-+] tries to bind a symbol `C-+' ("<C-+>" in `kbd'
speak), whereas you want the character, hence the ?\ prefix; it's
documented somewhere in the elisp manual I think).
