That works, thanks, BUT


C-x RET c iso8859-8 RET C-x C-f document RET

Also works!

Two comments

    1. Are these  codings  basically the same?

    2. Why can't emacs detect and display these files automatically?
       Besides if I did not know the coding in advance what were I
       supposed to do?
