I tried with and without b595b4598. It makes a little, but noticeable
difference:
without b595b4598 (master + reverted b595b4598)
5.66% emacs emacs [.] buf_bytepos_to_charpos
with b595b4598 (master)
2.38% emacs emacs [.] buf_bytepos_to_charpos
