I don't know if the linter has succeeded in improving the code, but I added to .emacs this, (defvar auto-save-list-file-prefix) (defvar backup-inhibited) (defvar inhibit-default-init) (defvar inhibit-startup-screen) (defvar initial-scratch-message) (defvar make-backup-files) (defvar user-emacs-directory) and Elint doesn't mention them. -- underground experts united https://dataswamp.org/~incal
