emacs -Q

C-h i, choose Elisp manual
C-s this-command

Repeat C-s. It stops at the "File:" occurrence at the beginning of each node.

I've also seen it stop after a link that does not contain the sought
text - for instance, searching for "minibuffer" it stops after a link
with text "mode-line".

In GNU Emacs 23.0.60.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
 of 2008-04-19 on LENNART-69DE564
Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 5.1.2600
configured using `configure --with-gcc (3.4) --no-opt --cflags -Ic:/g/include
-fno-crossjumping'

Sorry, I can't reproduce this. In response to your related bug report,
I fixed this part of functionality on 2008-04-22, so maybe this bug is
already fixed by this change. But your version is from 2008-04-19.
Could you try with a later version? Perhaps we should ask Lennart to
update W32 binary versions more often.

Thanks for trying, Juri. Yes, I would love to get a recent Windows binary.

[In particular, Stefan has apparently radically changed the Emacs completion
code recently, and that has broken my code. I will need to get hold of a binary
to start to see what's happening. I read emacs-devel, but I don't always read
each message to the end in detail. If there was a discussion about changing
file-name completion in incompatible ways then I somehow missed it.]

Setting up a working build environment is very easy. All the
necessary information is already laid out in nt/INSTALL, and if you
ask, those here who have done it will be glad to tell you exactly
which downloads of what Unix utilities they use.
