This is certainly true. I've started using these kind of capabilities of
git when I discovered them in magit.
But for me, the key advantage is a very simple one. It's gives you a
project orientated view of git: rather than a file or directory. It
means that I don't accidentally commit two files when I have modified
three. The user interface is also very good and very discoverable.
These are not "power-user" features; magit is good for beginners.
VCs key advantage: it's not Git specific.
