BTW: Is there a way to apply patches attached to postings from within
Gnus/Emacs?

Hi Tassilo,

in XEmacs it's under
Tools->Apply Patch->To a file...
Tools->Apply Patch->To a buffer...

The functions in question are:

ediff-patch-file
and
ediff-patch-buffer

  BTW, just  to comment this patch: the  (goto-char (point-max)) thing
  supposed  that  the buffer  was  narrowed  to  footnotes. The  lines
  I added  are taken from the  narrowing function, it's  the part that
  tells what is the end of the narrowed region.

  I haven't seen the following (minor) patch installed.

  Andrew M. Scott sent me a complete study of this package, I'll have
  a look at it in some week.
