usage question for the emacs bugtracker for bug 572

I've added some information to bug 572:

including a patch.

The message didnt show up in gmane.emacs.pretest.bugs.

Also the bug didnt show up under the "contains patches" category of
bugs. Must the patch be attached for this to happen, or do I need to do
something else?

While I'm at it, shall I commit the patch? Shall I close the bug then?

This will be my first Emacs commit, which is why I ask these fairly lame
questions.

Your patch looks okay.  Assuming your own testing says that it doesn't
break other urls, please go ahead and commit it; and close the bug.

The "Contains patch" tag isn't really used seriously in our bug tracker
right now, so there's no need to worry about it.

Also, next time please include the bug reporter in your reply, instead
of just emailing ###@emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com; not all of them read
the bugs mailing list.
