Hi,
Do you mind if I move the Calc news for 23.1 onwards from
lisp/calc/README to the appropriate etc/NEWS file? It seems odd to have
it under a subdirectory of lisp/ in its own file. The older stuff could
be moved into etc/CALC-NEWS. calc-view-news could be an obsolete-alias
for view-emacs-news (or could search for ** Calc in NEWS).
(Some Calc entries have already been placed in etc/NEWS rather than
lisp/calc/README.)

No, not at all.

Okay; I was going to mention calc-view-news as the reason for
lisp/calc/README.
Do you have a preference for which alternative should happen to
calc-view-news? I don't have a strong opinion, although I do think
being able to get a list of package-specific changes is nice.

I thought about adding a view-emacs-news-hook, which in Calc buffers
would be a buffer-local thing that just searches for the first "Calc"
section in the NEWS file. Does that sound good enough?

Done.
BTW, the old calc-view-news did not work if the *.el files were
installed compressed, which has been the default for some time, so this
command cannot see much use.

Huh. I always run Emacs in place, so I never caught that.
(In case anyone is wondering, the Calc news file used to be in the Calc
source file directory, and Calc would look for calc.el to
determine which directory to find the news file.)
Well, thanks for quashing that bug!
