Like TAB typed in the minibuffer updates the Completions buffer, C-s typed in the isearch-edit-string minibuffer could update the matches in the searched buffer. There is already the value 'edit' of 'search-exit-option' that can activate the editing minibuffer, but what is missing is a way to redirect C-s in the editing minibuffer back to the original buffer.
