        Well, I tried again from tonight's version, and I can still
 reproduce it every time.

        No, these lines are identical. 

        I am at a bit of a loss as to  where to go from here. For ne, at
 least, I am stuck with the version from the Oct 1, or else I can't use
 emacs, -- unless I set the font in every buffer that is openeed.
