Is there really need to be so strict, I mean, having semi-nonsencial but useful keybindings is better than not having them in the first place. For example the split window in direction could be 'C-x w n ', 'n' for new window in direction. I would rather this than not having it. (tbh having four arrows not very useful, as C-x 2 and C-x 3 already deal with 2 of them).
