Actually, if you use cua-mode, DEL and BS have always behaved like this! Maybe this fact should be mentioned in the poll, so users of cua-mode are not confused when trying to determine what's changed (since nothing changed). I guess cua-mode need some testing under 24.1 in this respect (in particular, cua-mode saves the deleted text in register "0", which I strongly prefer to messing with the kill-ring). -- Kim F.
