Jakana, thank you for this package! It's very usful.
Would it be good to include this package with Emacs? A common annoyance
of new users is how comint won't run the usual programs they expect to
run in a terminal, and that (ansi-)term is rather frustrating to use.
(I've observed that this question is eventually raised by all new users
of Emacs.)
I think this package could solve that problem very well.

Yep, the plan is that in about two months, I will convert coterm into a
patch for comint with a few modifications. The "AChar" thingy will
probably not be enabled by default, for example, and I'm still
contemplating if the "stty -nl sane -echo" trick, copied from term.el,
should be used by default and if there's perhaps another way.
