If you have tabulated text in alternately colored background lines, it might well make sense to inherit that. Please: be aware that we are talking about a generic mechanism here. It does not make sense to hard-code behavior for a single application into it. There is more than one behavior that makes sense, and if we find that we can only cater for a single behavior of several possibly making sense (or being consistent), then we need to extend the API rather than fix the behavior to a single possibility. -- David Kastrup
