If there is to be another release from the emacs-25 branch (?),
please (admin.el) M-x set-version in that branch to x.y.50. Thanks.

Done.
Thanks for the reminder.

So master now targets 25.3?
As predicted, a bunch of bug metadata is now incorrect.
Plus all the instances of "25.2" in master.
These had better be changed before a merge from emacs-25 brings in other
"25.2" that actually do refer to 25.2.
Also, it is now unclear what "25.1.50" means in future bug reports.
(An old version of master, or a current version of emacs-25?)
I can't help feeling that this is a predictably confusing and
unsatisfactory state of affairs. I'm sorry for going on about this.

I can't help but feel like this was my mistake: I should have branched
emacs-25 (and renumbered master to 26.0.50) before stepping down.

How about if we renumber master to 26.0.50 now?

If John agrees, I don't object.

I'd actually like to see that happen, so definite agreement here.

Yes.

Can't help that.

People who care are encouraged to fix that. It cannot all be the job
of a single individual.

It's a question of time; soon enough this problem will go away.

It is not helpful to repeat these arguments over and over and over
again. The danger was clear many moons ago, when the decision was
made, but it was made nonetheless. How it is useful to reiterate the
same arguments time and again? To what end?
