Sorry, I don't follow: what string? what reparsing?
I meant to use something like this:
(call-process shell-file-name nil nil nil
shell-command-switch
(concat "pnmscale < "
(shell-quote-argument "foo") " > "
(shell-quote-argument "bar")))
Does this do what you want?
