When I start an Emacs session for a new version (which needs to recompile all the packages I use, because my sessions are restored by desktop.el), I see about 100 Lisp files compiled into *.eln inside of 1 minute, and then another bunch of 100 inside another minute (with 10 minutes between these two groups). Does this strike you as a long time to avoid unplugging? I hope your battery can hold more than a few minutes.
