I agree fully. It seems trivial to make a web interface that either 1) sends e-mails in the background or 2) which access the database directly. At least 1 would be really easy. About the complexity of the instructions, it does not need to be like that, we could show an example e-mail first and then explain the options below for those who want to know in more detail or use more advanced pseudo headers.
