Has anyone here tested emacs X resource usage with xrestop say.
Mathieu reported that Emacs 21.3 and cvs --with-gtk seems to leak memory
considerably when displaying graphics.

Have you tried lowering the value of image-cache-eviction-delay?
Try a couple of minutes.

Also see if evaling (clear-image-cache t) lowers the resource usage.
It would tell if the resources are really lost or just not emptied
from the cache.
