I can't reproduce this. Was the problem perhaps fixed by recent changes?


how to reproduce:

1) start emacs with "runemacs -q"
2) load a txt file with some chinese text in it. it should look fine at this stage.
3) shift-left click the emacs window, and select an italic variant of a font .
4) the characters become boxes.
