That would make sense to me too. However, John thought it better to put

I didn't look at the actual patch before saying that, only the description
that it doesn't affect most X11 installations. We want to avoid unnecessary
changes at this point, however small.

That said, this does look truly harmless, so I'd be fine with cherry picking
it to emacs-25.
