So, why? Yes, that's been a real obstacle. I have not had time to look into the issue, and I assume ESR hasn't either. So the problem festers, which is too bad, as Texinfo 5 is reeeallly slow. Luckily I have not been updating documentation much lately, and this lessens my motivation for looking into the issue (though to be honest it's not clear which is cause and which is effect). I've heard Asciidoctor (not Asciidoc) is fast -- does anybody who knows care to comment?
