Although Gnulib established its own style for git commit messages, the 
usual Git style is reasonable, it's not that hard to use, and it is a 
bit nicer when reviewing large quantities of commits.  The sample you 
just gave could have been summarized "openat etc.: document oddball BSD 
O_NOFOLLOW errno", for example, and that fits in 50.
