I think the above error message means that my mail reached debbugs, which then tried to do some kind of verification on fencepost.gnu.org, and failed. So debbugs.gnu.org must have some stricter checking turned on than eg, the emacs mailing lists, or the old emacsbugs server. Could this be turned off?
