Subject: shr: howto?

Hi Lars,
There are many instances on the messy Web where <span> nodes occur
with no preceding white-space, they rely on styling to some how
create the space. In EWW, these then run together with the preceding
text.
I tried adding a custom shr handler for span to insert " " if the
preceding char is not ?\ but that appears to have no effect --
suspect the whitespace gets cleaned up by other magic in shr. Is there
a possible fix?
