This surprises me. I wasn't able yet to make xterm work with both
ibus and the `.Xcompose' file (alternatively, I mean). As soon as
ibus is loaded (but deactivated), .Xcompose gets ignored, and some
hard-coded composing data gets used... Maybe the ibus-xkb extension
helps, but I haven't tried it yet.
