I run on an up to date Gentoo GNU/Linux system. For some time, maybe two to four weeks, some older Emacsen have been hanging. Start them with emacs -Q, and they display the opening screen, but remain unresponsive using 100% CPU. emacs-23.3 -Q, emacs-23.2 -Q hang. emacs-23.1 -Q runs OK, as does emacs-24 (thankfully). Rebuilding 23.3 didn't help. Does anybody have any idea what is going on, here? -- Alan Mackenzie (Nuremberg, Germany).
