Can this be done reliably in elisp? The reason I want this is because I want to enable "modifyOtherString" at runtime in term/xterm.el (it can be done by sending an escape sequence to the terminal). But not all terminals that set TERM to xterm support modifyOtherString. By querying the terminal I can find out if it is indeed an xterm and send the escape sequence to enable modifyOtherString.
