In C buffers, macro definition backslashes are indented with tabs
even if indent-tabs-mode is set to nil. E.g.:
#define X \
1
This is probably easy to fix.
Emacs is several weeks old CVS snapshot.

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't reload the buffer after inserting local
variables.
