Actually the following might help users even more:
State: this option has been changed outside the customize buffer.
Customizing this through Custom can have unpredictable results.
That last line is definitely _not_ an overstatement.
After Emacs 21.4 is out we could try to make sure that those lines
basically never will appear, by trying to eliminate the (unfortunately
numerous) situations that give rise to it.
