Because the Emacs Gnus and the `Gnus Gnus' have not been kept in sync well [there's been some occasional merging of changes, but if anything it's made the situation worse, because as far as I can see it's only been done haphazardly, and it's muddied the waters]. One of the big annoyances is the many `trivial changes' that have been done to the emacs tree, e.g. whitespace tweaks, spelling fixes, etc., which tend to hide real bugfixes merely by their huge quantity. > Perhaps you could install the new Gnus now and later fix/merge changes > from the current emacs CVS version if there are problems I will do that if I must, but I'd like to see if I can do things properly first. I still have some hope I can sort things out. > (I suppose you can do that easily with arch :-) Ha, ha, I wish arch was magic like that ... :-) Hopefully arch will make things easier in the future, but... [I have been careful to create the new Gnus arch tree in a way that it knows which files correspond to each other in Emacs and Gnus.] -Miles -- "1971 pickup truck; will trade for guns"
