      IMHO it would be better if customize
    groked the "See Info node" magic and created documentation links.

That would be a very good thing.  Would one of you like to implement
that?  It might not be very hard to copy the code from the help
functions to customize.

We would still need someone to go through the various
customizable variables looking for places where it would
be good to add such references to the doc string.
