The symptoms are the same as a report that I made last year which details
how to reproduce this if you can't already see it (it probably just
requires clicking on text with mouse-face to perform a task that takes
a few seconds to complete):

but this time I don't know what change might have caused it.
It doesn't occur in EMACS_22_BASE.
