Sorry, I didn't expect objections.  The newly generated config.in file
should be functionally equivalent.  Future changes will now make sure that
it is consistent with the configure script, and autoheader requires a
comment for every symbols, which wasn't the case before.

Andreas, what are those wholesale changes in configury?  I see lots of 
changes in config.in (which is now generated by autoheader) and in 
src/m/*.h files; I guess src/s/*.h files are next.

Can we please discuss these changes before they are made?

I didn't say I objected (I don't), I just wanted to understand what
is going on.

I see that you removed defines related to alloca and the stack
direction.  Are there any others?

No, these are the only symbols that I removed.  Those were actually always
computed by autoconf (AC_FUNC_ALLOCA) anyway, but never appeared in
config.in.
