Hi all,

There is a longstanding issue running Emacs within GNU Screen. Me and
others, including Eli, reported this issue last year:

https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=36676

GNU Screen just released v5.0.0. I have just tested v5.0.0 and the same
problem seems to persist, which makes modern Emacs (v29.4 in my case)
hard to use. Namely:

> Emacs does indeed have italics support after switching to screen

> displayed underlined. But some italics show up now e.g. in the menu

Can someone else reproduce this issue please?

Thanks,
J

I asked questions in the Savannah bug report, but it was left
unanswered. Does the new Screen implement the sitm and ritm
capabilities? If it does not, I'm afraid that GNU Screen is still
where it was a year ago.

Thanks. Sounds correct, the maintainer did not answer those questions
and the bug seems to be still present.

I will open a new bug to see if this time it gets more attention by the
GNU Screen maintainer.

Best,
J.
